Also more detail about how you currently have the AI driver and i/o buses set will assist us to assist you. The more specs the better when it comes to asking for assist. The problem is, you didn’t list what it was or list anything else about your computer. So, I’m guessing that it is possible that your audio interface may not be setup correctly. So assuming you have your audio interface set correctly in the Cubase VST Audio System menu and the output bus set correctly in the Cubase VST Connections menu (output tab), you should be all set. The default output for the instrument track will be the main stereo out channel. Insert a vst instrument (like Halion Sonic SE) and choose a sound. Try dragging your midi to the instrument track. I also tried selecting VSL-Out 1 as the MIDI output and VSL-In 1 as the Instrument input, and still nothing I tried selecting the GM Device, and checking it on the Instrument track, and nothing. Then, I went to the MIDI track, and on the output options, there were these options: GM Device (Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth), and VSL-Out (1-10) Ok, I did that, I put the MIDI file, then I created an instrument track, and I selected the Halion Sonic SE, (the only option there) as an acoustic guitar So input the midi file on a cubase midi track, then add an instrument track with a VST, go back to the MIDI track inspector and assign the output to the instrument track you’ve just created…press play…voila
So yo ucan, with Cubase, assign a synth to a guitar track, as WMP will try to put a guitar sound on the guitar track etc etc Sometimes a MIDI file contain one track, sometimes its multiple tracks … like “guitar - bass - keyboard”, then you choose what instrument goes to wich track. Many people complained on their facebook or even on their forums (notably a lot of producers) but they wouldn't listen to them.MIDI is just the notes in the editor (to explain it simple) … so in WMP, there are some sounds to play the midi files, but in Cubase (as its pro) you wil lhave to assign an instrument (say Retrologue) to hear the result. Plus, the score has always existed, it's not like it's a revolution. Some people find it easier with the score, but it's because they are not as used to the numbers as others are. It's fine if some people use the score, I can understand that, and I myself find it infinitely clearer to read than a GP drum tab obviously because those numbers are only midi notes for general midi, but removing the possibility completely is just annoying for those who used it. Now all that have changed, and even the way the edition window follows the cursor feels a bit less natural to me (it would move more often if you're in certain settings, not like let's say microsoft Word who doesn't make your words move relatively to your screen while you type the next ones) but that other thing is more nitpicking.

I could write complicated drum rolls in drum tabs because I know by heart all the usual midi numbers (36, 38, 40, kick and snares, 42 closed hi hat, 46 open hi hat, 41 43 45 47 48 toms 49 57 crash 52 china etc etc) and also because the "edit window" in GP5 behaves a very natural way, and the rythm edition is fast using + and - and a few other keys around the numpad (on a PC keyboard though). The thing is that it's way slower using the score, and the copy/pasting is better dealt with and feels more natural in tabs than in the score line. For instance you cannot write "36" for a kick the way you want on the tab. You cannot write drum the same way as you write guitar tabs.
What if you export the midi, and import it in your DAW, now find the event list of your midi, does it countain anything special except the usual notes, track name, etc ? And those programmers seem like they only care about RSE banks, and don't even wanna talk about drum tabs : did you change any setting ? If any of you has a way to have guitar pro 5 working on latest macosx version, I would erect a worship statue of him in my room because it seems even using an old GP5 doesn't work anymore. Come on, there were way enough midi notes available for that, and even S2.0 or SSD4 have half the midi notes unused).

I can write entire complicated songs and program drums there, and fine tune in my DAW.Īnd they removed that full feature, giving stupid explanations for doing so (they "needed new articulations that midi can't provide to deal with their drums".

They have fucking removed drum tab, and that was the best feature of this awesome piece of software that were V4/V5.
